There are always plants that need a bit of support to stand tall. Lilies and gladioli are the worst in my garden. A few years ago I got a local craftsman to make me these supports, and I love them. They look decorative with no plants in them, but really earn their keep when the flowers need them.
ps - I never thought I would have gladioli in my garden - but tucked in amongst other plants, they are fabulous in mid-late summer when many things are in between flowering. They add height and really strong colour. And so many different colours available these days.
oh Rachel these are too terrific…i love the rustiness of them because they blend in so well. I'm thinking it's about time i embraced some gladioli in the garden too…you have given me courage…but lordy, lordy, that is the most amazing colour gladioli i have ever seen!! (thank you for your beautiful comment too…it was such a lovely thing to say.) x
ReplyDeleteHI Virginia - this is my very favourite colour in flowers - deep deep red. The old Gladdies do add a real intensity of colour to any scheme. They were so unfashionable for so many years, but I think you can always find space to sneak a few in!! What is fashion anyway? Do what you want!! xo
DeleteWhat a great idea Rachel! Much better looking than plain old garden stakes. I am so envious of your garden, it looks amazing. x
ReplyDeleteHI Vic - don't let the selected photos deceive you!! The stakes are so simple, and because they look good, they stay in all year. I went to a metalworker/engineer for these. Rx
