At home I have some fabulous perennials that just keep going and going with flowers well into autumn. Some have only started late summer, so they have changed the look already, and taken over from the summer stars.
Here are some of my favourites: Dahlia, Canna Lily, Aster, Helenium, Solidago (Golden Rod), and Sedum.
I cannot explain how much pleasure I have had in developing this garden and watching it grow. Very different from all my other gardens, and one which has changed every week, depending on which flower species is dominating.
For the last 5 weeks or so, this tall yellow cosmos has been the reigning champion! Without a doubt, the most cheerful and gorgeous flower in the mix. I have used it for flower arrangements big and small (see photos), and it looks to be ready to keep going for many more weeks yet. I am about to start collecting the seed so I can use it in next year's mix.
The whole garden started out with blues and pinks in the early stages and has evolved now to this mass of yellow. I am very happy with it.
How could anyone not smile when they see this field of yellow?!
